Joan Scott is one of the foremost historians in the United States, especially with respect to women’s history and gender studies.

Questions to think about as you read:

What do you think women’s history is?  How does one “do” women’s history?

What does Scott say women’s history is?  How has it changed over time?

Is studying gender issues in a religion different from other things we might study, such as gender and politics, or European women’s history?  How/how not?  Why/why not?

This course is titled “Women and Christianity.”  What do you think that means?  How might a course titled “Women and Christianity” be different from a course on the “History of Christian Women”?
